 | John BERRISFORD This picture of John shows him wearing his U.S decoration won after taking part in Indian fighting during which he sustained a bullet wound making him lame in later life.
The Berrisfords variously spelt Beresford were settlers from the English town of Uttoxeter where John was born in 1847. A widower when he married Elizabeth Youatt during 1887 he ran a country store prior to marriage after which the couple lived in St. Paul Minn.
John died in 1908 and was buried at a Berrisford plot in Oakland cemetery St. Paul. Elizabeth died during 1945 |

 | Jugs by Bessie Jane YOUATT Bessie Jane Youatt attended the Lambeth School of Art and was later employed as an artist at the Royal Doulton Pottery in Battersea from 1873-1888 We would be fortunate indeed to find examples of her handiwork still available today. Such examples are few in number and very valuable as they are in Marqueterie Ware –a thin eggshell like ornamental ware with patterns in blues or purple. A characteristic monogram BJC identifies Bessie’s work – see illustration. Bessie married during 1891. |

 | Samuel Bale YOUATT & William George YOUATT This picture of Samuel and William George Youatt (picture by courtesy of Mary Steinbauer Youatt) was taken in Barnstaple sometime before they set sail for America.
One would think William was about 18 or so and Samuel 15 which would date the photo as being taken in 1874.
These sons of the Stonemason William Youatt were about to start apprenticeships in London where William George learnt the craft of a Carpenter and Samuel the Stonemasonry craft of his father. Both were to make good use of these skills in the USA but not before they had helped there father build the Emmanuel Church shown on p.57 when he was no doubt proud to quote ‘William Youatt and Sons’ for the contract. |

 | Thomas Anning Youatt The rather sombre picture is thought to be Thomas Anning Youatt most likely taken
when aged about 20 - (1870).
Thomas was the Great Grandfather of the Author and died aged 37 from the tubercular disease that led to the deaths of so many of the family of Thomas and Harriet.
Thomas alone of all the 13 children was responsible for raising a family and furthering the Youatt name.
By trade Thomas was a Commercial Clerk at Bristol Docks before later becoming an Insurance salesman/clerk and with Annie his wife, an Innkeeper at Southampton |

 | Thomas Rumbelow YOUATT This picture shows the Gamekeeper when aged about 50 and taken in a photographic studio quite possibly in nearby Chippenham or even Bath. Mounted on card and printed in a sepia colour the picture has an oval cut out.
Thomas has his arm resting on what appears to be a music stand (photographers prop).
In later years Thomas lost the sight in one eye quite probably the result of a shotgun blowback - a trade hazard. |
